How to set up Codex in the ChatGPT app

developers.openai.com/codex/app opens learn.chatgpt.com/docs/app. The CLI and quickstart addresses redirect the same way, to the CLI doc and the quickstart.

What is on the screen

The desktop page says the app is the command center for projects, files, and long-running work. The button on this check was Download for Windows, plus App quickstart.

The written steps on that page: install the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, Windows, or Linux, sign in with a ChatGPT account, choose a chat, a project, or a folder, then choose ChatGPT or Codex. In Codex, start with New chat and describe the result you want.

The quickstart says the desktop app is the recommended place for projects and local files. Web needs no install.

If you use the terminal

The current CLI doc gives these install lines.

macOS and Linux: curl -fsSL https://chatgpt.com/codex/install.sh | sh

Windows PowerShell: powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://chatgpt.com/codex/install.ps1 | iex"

Then open a project folder and run codex. The first time, choose Sign in with ChatGPT, or the other sign-in the window offers.

The picture on that page shows a session on gpt-6-sol and these commands: /init, /status, /permissions, /model, and /review. Those labels are on the picture. This guide did not run them.

Today's CLI and app docs do not say which ChatGPT plan includes Codex. This page does not fill that in from an older article.

What you keep

One folder. One signed-in Codex session. One message that asks it to look before it edits. A first prompt that still fits: inspect the folder, suggest one small safe task, and wait for approval.

No. Codex is the tool for a project folder. You sign in with a ChatGPT account. The docs now live on learn.chatgpt.com.

Which ChatGPT plan includes Codex?
